Honda Celebration of Light

Honda Celebration of Light

The Honda Celebration of Light is an annual event held in Vancouver each summer. The event, which consists of 25 minute fireworks displays accompanied by music, has been held in Vancouver since 1990. It is also recognized as the longest-running offshore fireworks competition in the world.

Each year three companies compete, representing their respective countries. They are judged by a panel of experts, sponsor representatives, and celebrities. Judges grade each competitor on various categories. The categories include: sizing of show, overall design and artistry, synchronization, originality of effects, quality of soundtrack, and quality of fireworks. Each category’s overall weight on the total score varies.

The three countries competing at this year’s show will be: China, Brazil, and Canada. China competed on July 25. Represented by Lidu Fireworks. Established in 1974, it’s one of the largest fireworks manufacturers in China. The company was also one of the lead suppliers at the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games. Group Vision Show will be representing Brazil. The company specializes in the pyrotechnics segment, barge rentals, and special projects. Their show date is set for July 29. Archangel Fireworks will be representing Canada on August 1. Established in 1988, the company is known for it’s unique soundtracks and combining unusual genres of music to pull emotion from the audience.

Spectators can watch the fireworks and tune into the accompanying soundtrack on the radio station LG104.3 FM. From everyone at Marv Jones Honda, we hope to see you at the Honda Celebration of Light in Vancouver, BC!
